Unconventional Disney Tips

Our impromptu podcast. We will post a new podcast every couple weeks or so. We talk all travel tips.

This morning my brain was on low battery and dealing with some serious brain fog. I wanted to work on some content ideas, but I couldn’t think clearly. So I FaceTimed my sister Shawn, because I knew we have spreadsheets for when we go to Disney with things like what we want to do, eat, or experience, plus reminders for what to pack. I didn’t want to make a video giving advice like “bring a water bottle and a portable charger” that everyone has already heard a thousand times.

That call inspired me to jump on Zoom and record a raw podcast episode. It ended up being the kind of practical Disney experience advice I wish we had known our first time.

This is the first of many. As we get the hang of recording these, the production value and our process will get smoother and better. For now, you’re getting the real thing: two Disney regulars swapping the tips that save your body, your feet, and your mood.

To be transparent, the links you’ll find hyperlinked are Amazon affiliate links. I’m not sponsored in any way. These are simply products we own and actually use. The small percentage I earn from those links might cover a coffee here and there.

Why these tips matter

When you’re doing 20,000–30,000 steps a day, heat, humidity, friction, and sore joints can turn a magical trip into survival mode. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll still have fun, but over time we’ve learned that a few small, inexpensive things can prevent blisters and a lot of unnecessary pain. For me, fatigue really sets in if I don’t listen to my body when those first little discomforts start creeping in, especially because I know I’ll usually just push through it. Giving your body a little TLC to prevent discomfort means the vacation you’ve been looking forward to doesn’t get bogged down.

1) Foot + ankle compression

My number one “I will never do Disney without this again” item is a compression sleeve that covers the foot and ankle.

Even if you have good shoes, compression can help with:

  • swelling

  • foot fatigue

  • overall stamina, especially if you’re not used to that much walking

If you’ve got park days stacked back-to-back, this can be the difference between enjoying Day 3 and pushing through, not as comfortable, through Day 3.

2) Anti-chafe products: protect the skin

If you’ve never dealt with thigh rub (or any friction rash), it’s easy to underestimate how fast it can get miserable. We’ve seen it happen. It’s brutal.

Family favorites:

Unexpected pro tip: if you’re wearing a tank top and carrying a Loungefly or crossbody strap, you can use anti-chafe where the strap rubs your skin.

3) Bra sweat liners: the “why didn’t I know this existed?” item

This was new to me, and I’m obsessed. These are soft, absorbent liners that sit under the bust area and help with sweat.

Why it’s amazing:

  • helps you stay comfortable in heat and humidity

  • reduces irritation

  • lets you swap the liner instead of feeling like you need a whole new bra mid-trip

  • Shawn has sensory issues and says she doesn’t even notice them once they’re in

If you’re going in July or August, this is one of those “small item, huge difference” upgrades.

4) Phone lanyards

If you’re the person in charge of:

  • Lightning Lanes

  • mobile ordering

  • showtimes

  • reservations

  • photos

…you’re going to be on your phone a lot.

We love crossbody phone lanyards (adjustable length) because you can:

  • grab your phone instantly

  • keep it attached to you

  • still tuck it into a pocket or bag

  • pair it with your portable charger without feeling like you’re juggling everything

Important note: use a solid phone case if you’re using a lanyard. Shawn cracked a screen protector using a lanyard with a less protective case. Now she uses a case that wraps fully around the phone for park days.

Bonus: Shawn found a lanyard that includes a detachable wallet so you can carry your essentials without a whole bag.

5) KT Tape: emergency support without a sweaty brace

KT tape is one of those things you don’t think you’ll need… until you do.

It’s great because:

  • you don’t have to predict where you’ll be sore

  • it’s waterproof and lasts a couple days

  • you can use it for knees, ankles, shin splints, even lower back support

  • there are sensitive skin versions

  • there are newer versions with things like menthol, lavender, or magnesium

If your body sometimes goes, “Why are we walking 25k steps today?” KT tape is a friendly answer.

6) Recovery tips you can do mid-trip

You don’t have to grind from rope drop to close to have an amazing trip. Some of the best memories come from slowing down and enjoying the atmosphere.

A few recovery ideas we love:

Your body will thank you, and you’ll enjoy the next day more.

7) Rain, water rides, and the “wet feet” problem

Florida rain can show up with zero warning and absolutely commit to the bit. Don’t let it ruin your day.

Two practical tips:

  • pack extra socks in your bag

  • consider waterproof shoe covers (especially for rides where water sits in the bottom of the boat)

Also: wear clothing that dries fast. Athletic wear, hiking pants, and moisture-wicking fabrics make a huge difference compared to jeans.

8) Disney nights hit different (and After Hours is worth it)

We got into why we love parks at night, and why After Hours events are often the move if you hate crowds.

Why we love After Hours:

  • lower crowds

  • included snacks (often popcorn, ice cream bars, drinks)

  • short lines for big rides

  • a calmer vibe that feels completely different than daytime

If you notice an After Hours event during your trip, it can be a smart strategy to skip a regular ticket that day and just do the event.

9) Disneyland vs Disney World differences (we said what we said)

We touched on a few differences that matter in real life:

  • there are ways to make MagicBands more comfortable (including watch adapters)

  • there’s a known issue sometimes when bringing MagicBands from WDW to Disneyland, so update firmware and be ready for troubleshooting

  • and yes… Disneyland churros are better (don’t come for us)

Planning 2027 Disney now (two easy options)

If you’re thinking about 2027 dates, you can get ahead in a way that gives you maximum flexibility and the best pricing options.

Two paths:

  1. Book now with a $200 deposit and modify once 2027 dates open

  2. Join my waitlist, and I’ll reach out when dates drop so we can grab the best options quickly

Either way, as promos are released, I keep watching and apply what qualifies so your price can go down over time.
